Thinking about your Course with ALPS Site

The intention of this activity is to generate ideas in the development of your own lesson or course. Here you will explore Harvard's Active Learning Practice for Schools. The site contains lessons and material created by other instructors as well as a lesson development tool to help you generate motivating and learner centered learning units. Please take advantage of this assignment to explore the material, investigate what others have done and collect ideas for your own work.

  1. Go to the ALPS, Active Learning Practice for Schools, site and register.
  2. Once you have registered and logged in, click on the Collaborative Curriculum Design Tool (CCDT) Trailhead
  3. Once at the trailhead, click on the Reflective Questions link and respond to the questions posed regarding the course you wish to put online. Once you have completed the Reflective Questions section, click the check box entitled: "Use this reflection to begin a CCDT unit" and click "GO." (If you get lost, don't worry about it, just go to the CCDT Trailhead link at the bottom and once there, select "Start a New Design").
  4. You will be asked to provide a title for your new design, then click "Next"
  5. On the next screen is a pull down box "Click here to add a new framework." Select the "Learning Spiral" option.
  6. Before completing the fields on each screen, please review the material provided in the "Help" sections.
  7. If you want to copy your work into a document: at the design overview screen (that displays all the pages in your design), note the tool bar at the top. The toolbar commands include: Print Preview, Publish, Copy Design, Team Info, Messages, Chat, and CCDT Help. Select the Print Preview option. It will compile all your information into a Web ready screen. You can then select all and copy and paste the contents into a seperate document.
